Dominica Wamuyu Kihu cancer survivor aged 62.

A painless lump at my left side of the breast which I discovered in 2001 made a great difference in my life. I decided to visit the hospital at Nyeri provincial hospital. The doctor did some tests and they were sent to Nairobi Hospital for verification. After a period of about two weeks the results finally came and it was found that indeed it had cancer. I was admitted and mastectomy was done and I paid Ksh. 8,000 which amount was too much for me since I had no job. After mastectomy the doctor gave me a referral letter to Kenyatta hospital and when I went to Kenyatta I was told that I would not get a place for radiation due to congestion. I decided to go Nairobi Hospital for the same treatment at a cost of ksh 86,000. I was never given chemotherapy but was put on hormonal therapy for five years. She overcame illness and lived to tell her story. post by Ian nissi munene
